It is becoming less uncommon to make a dry red wine with the variety Pinot Meunier. The style is similar to its brethren Pinot Noir, if a little lighter in depth and complexity.
Fruit for the wine was sourced from the valley floor adjacent to the Maroondah Highway. Made just like a Pinot – open pot, short and hot ferment, pressed to oak just before dryness and matured in French barrels.
Nose: Strawberry jam, morello cherries, with other red and blue fruits. A “riper” feel than the 2022. Background savoury spice. Enjoyingly simple.
Palate: Lightly framed but plush and round. Black cherries carry from the nose. Fleshy with soft ripe tannins. Consider a slight chill for a vibrant picnic wine.
Matured for five months in 100% French oak barriques, with around 9% new
